REFLECTION

1. What were your initial thoughts or expectations about using ChatGPT and inquiry-based learning in this course?

 

I hoped that ChatGPT could be very helpful in the explanation of abstruse concepts, doubt clarification, and idea generation. Regarding inquiry-based learning, I am expecting that this will deepened engagement with the material; it would encourage critical thinking, active processes of learning. These were two tools that could find complementarity in the other, rendering learning dynamic and more interactive.

 

2. How has your perception of inquiry-based learning and ChatGPT changed throughout the course?

 

As the class progressed, my view towards both inquiry-based learning and ChatGPT started shifting drastically. I began realizing that inquiry-based learning does not only mean a route for exploration but also one of developing an autonomous and more reflective approach towards problem solving. It urged me towards raising better questions and in trying to find active connections amongst concepts.

 

I was taught to take tenuous approaches toward its recommendations to ensure analysis and validation rather than an out-of-hand acceptance of information. Together, these tools have reshaped how I approach learning to make it more engaging and self-driven.

 

3. Reflect on a specific instance where inquiry-based learning or ChatGPT helped improve your writing performance. How did this experience impact your learning?

 

One specific example is when I was working on an argumentative essay. I used ChatGPT for idea generation and refining the structure of my arguments. Through inquiry-based learning, I had questions such as, "What evidence best supports this point?" or "How can I address potential counterarguments effectively?"
It also gave very useful suggestions from ChatGPT regarding the logical flow of my arguments and gave examples to show evidence clearly. This has made me see my writing from a different perspective and achieve more coherence and depth.

 

4. What challenges did you face when engaging in inquiry-based learning or using ChatGPT? How did you overcome these challenges?

 

One of the main difficulties I had with inquiry-based learning was to stay focused and ask appropriate questions. At first, I found it hard to frame specific, actionable inquiries that would actually lead to meaningful exploration. The use of ChatGPT had its own challenges—for example, knowing which of the suggestions were accurate or relevant, and not over-relying on its output.


I overcame these through the development of my questioning skills—starting with broad questions and narrowing them down as clarity was attained. I also learned to look at ChatGPT's responses critically by cross-referencing them with reliable sources and using them as starting points rather than definitive answers. In the process, I developed a more disciplined approach, using ChatGPT as a tool to complement my learning rather than replace critical thinking.

 

5. Overall, how do you think the integration of inquiry-based learning and ChatGPT has influenced your writing skills and overall learning experience?

The integration of inquiry-based learning and ChatGPT has significantly improved both my writing skills and my overall learning experience. Inquiry-based learning encouraged me to approach writing as a process of exploration, focusing on critical thinking and developing well-reasoned arguments. It helped me become more intentional in structuring my ideas and addressing different perspectives.

ChatGPT complemented this by serving as a brainstorming partner, offering feedback on drafts, and suggesting improvements in style, clarity, and coherence. Together, these tools pushed me to think more deeply, write more effectively, and engage more actively with the material. Overall, this integration has made learning more dynamic and empowered me to tackle complex topics with confidence
